Fixing Leaks

Many household appliances use water to perform their various functions. Anytime an appliance uses water it is prone to developing leaks at some point in its use.

Stop the damage first

This page will help you find where your leak is coming from and offer some potential methods of repairing the problem.

The first step in fixing your leak is always preventing further damage. Water can be extremely damaging to structures of various building materials. To begin it is recommended that the source of water be shut off.

If the leak is slow enough it may be a good idea to place a bowl or a bucket under the leak. Most appliances have a shut off valve located relatively close to them. The valve can generally be found by following the inlet hose to its connection with the building's plumbing. Occasionally when attempting to use this valve the operator may find that it has become dysfunctional for some reason. Most homes and buildings will have a main shut off valve that can also be turned off to prevent the continuous flow of water from the leak.

After the water supply has been shut off, remove the water which has spilled out. Towels and sponges work well.

Identifying the leak varies by appliance. Links to the different articles are provided below.
